Matthew 5.

The Book of Matthew

Return to Index.

Chapter 6

1Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be 1seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
1 Matt 6:5, 16, 23:5
2Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They 1have their reward.
1 Luke 6:24
3But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall 1reward thee openly.
1 Jer 17:10 Matt 6:6, 18
5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be 1seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
1 Matt 6:1, 16, 23:5
6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall 1reward thee openly.
1 Jer 17:10 Matt 6:4, 18
7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father 1knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
1 Matt 6:32 Luke 12:30 Phil 4:19
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Luke 11:2
10 Thy 1kingdom come, Thy 2will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
1 Dan 2:44 Matt 3:2, 4:17, 23, 10:7 Luke 10:9, 11:20, 21:31
2 Matt 26:42 Luke 22:42 Acts 21:14
11Give us this day our daily bread.
Prov 30:8 Isa 33:16 Luke 11:3
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Exod 34:7 Psa 32:1, 130:4 Matt 9:2, 26:28 Eph 1:7 1 John 1:9
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from 1evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
1 Matt 5:37, 13:19, 38 John 17:15 2 Thess 3:3 1 John 2:13, 3:12, 5:18
14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Prov 11:17 Matt 5:7, 18:33
15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may 1appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
1 Matt 6:1, 5, 23:5
17But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
2 Sam 12:20
18That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall 1reward thee openly.
1 Jer 17:10 Matt 6:4, 6
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Prov 23:4 Luke 12:21, 33, 18:22 1 Tim 6:9 Heb 13:5 Jam 5:2
20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
1 Tim 6:19
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke 12:34
22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Luke 11:34
23But if thine 1eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
1 Matt 20:15
24No man can serve 1two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and 2mammon.
1 1 Kings 18:21 Luke 16:13
2 Luke 16:9, 11, 13
25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Luke 10:41, 11:22-23 Phil 4:6 1 Pet 5:7
26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Job 35:11, 38:41 Psa 104:27,28 Matt 10:29 Luke 12:24
27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Psa 39:5 Luke 12:25
28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Luke 12:26
29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
1 Kings 10:7 2 Chron 9:6, 13-28 Luke 12:27
30Wherefore, if God so clothe the 1grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, 2O ye of little faith?
1 Luke 12:28 James 1:10,11
2 Matt 8:26, 14:31, 16:8 Luke 12:28
31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Luke 12:29
32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father 1knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
1 Matt 6:8 Luke 12:30 Phil 4:19
33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Luke 12:31
34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
